Marlon Brando Vintage Autograph Signed "Showboat" 10" Soundtrack Record
This 10" soundtrack record for the film "Showboat" has been signed on the reverse by Marlon Brando in pencil. The record was released in 1951. It is inscribed "To Helen your pal Marlon Brando". This was signed in New York in 1959 while Brando was filming "The Fugitive Kind". Helen, to whom it's inscribed, was a friend of Cicely Steinberg, who obtained almost all of the vintage film stars' autographs on records I offer on my site. Helen also obtained some of the early rock and roll signatures on my site also. Helen and Cicely would often go autograph hunting together, starting in the mid 1950's, attending the filming of such shows as "Dick Clark's Saturday Night Beechnut Show". To obtain film stars' autographs, they would roam the Broadway theater district, as they both grew up in that area. They would acquire records at the local Colony Records store on Broadway, obtaining the least expensive records due to limited funds. This is why the autographs they later obtained were often incongruous to the items signed. The record cover shows many signs of wear and age. The bottom seam is completely split through, the top seam is split about half way. The vinyl record shows a number of scratches on both sides which may affect play. Brando's signature is of course rare in any form, this being a vintage example. I will be glad to send a closeup scan of the signature with better resolution than is possible here
