Humphrey Bogart Katharine Hepburn Signed "The African Queen" Autographed Lobby Card Photo ITEM SOLD
This is an 8" x 10" black and white lobby card for "The African Queen" signed by Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. This had been in the collection of Sig Goode, who started collecting autographs in the late '30s when he was a staff photographer for MGM, Modern Screen and others. There are a number of signs of age and wear to the photo, some bending and cracking of the photo surface. In the upper left of the reverse (see inset photo) is written in pencil "Victory Broadway", referring to the Victory Theater on Broadway in New York, apparently where the lobby card was displayed. This may also be the location where Bogart signed the photo, as he often made public appearances at movie houses to promote his latest film. Bogart's signature is in blue fountain pen, Hepburn's was signed later in black felt tip pen. Great photo of both stars with Bogie climbing into the African Queen. This was of course his only Academy Award winning role. Very rare for Bogart to sign movie stills, more so when not inscribed. I got a "good as gold" response when I showed this to Al Wittnebert, prominent collector and dealer who co-wrote a signature study on Bogart.
