Buddy Holly Twice Signed Record Sleeve Niki Sullivan Joe Mauldin Jerry Allison Crickets Autograph
This 45 EP sleeve has been signed by Buddy Holly and all three Crickets: Buddy Holly, Joe Mauldin, Jerry Allison and Niki Sullivan signed the reverse in pencil. Buddy and Joe again signed the front. The record sleeve is from a record by the Three Suns. In early September 1957, a New York rock and roll fan and autograph collector named Cicely Steinberg was told that Buddy Holly and the Crickets, with their song "That'll Be The Day" shooting up the charts, were staying at the Ambassador Hotel. She hurried down to Colony Records, nearby on Broadway (and still there!), to get a copy of their record. A copy was not available, so she grabbed this one. Apparently Buddy and Joe signed the front cover first, and realizing the pencil didn't write well on the glossy surface, signed the reverse. The indentations on the two signatures on the front are very evident, as they pressed harder with the pencil. The cover shows numerous signs of age and wear. The front and back covers have become separated with age, they are now in two separate pieces. An obviously very rare piece, having Buddy signed with all three Crickets. Niki Sullivan would leave the group soon after their December appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show". This will make an incredible dispay with the proper photo.
